Originally to games on a PC with your friends you had to set up a LAN party. This required you to be in close quarters with all your friends to be able to connect to each computer. However, with rising internet infrastructure, there has been a rise in online gaming. With most games (which allow it), you can now connect to the internet to play with anybody, from anywhere in the world. This led to games such as World of Warcraft, SWTOR and Guild Wars etc. However, some of the more popular titles are not typical role-playing games such as these. DOTA-2, League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are short game length games with a typical team vs team environment. Highly competitive groups of friends have competed with other groups. Professional teams have formed and the competition has only risen. A new term, eSports, has arisen. The sporting side of online gaming is booming, with competitions attended by tens of thousands and watched by millions. Prizes for the winning teams are rising into the millions of pounds. If you think you’re good enough, why not give it a go?
