Stardew Valley is a bit of an odd game really; well it’s odd in the sense that it doesn’t feel quite right on the PS4. It has all of the classic PC game credentials so there was no surprise when it was announced to be released on PC, but the simplicity of it means it’s not your standard console game.

So what’s the game all about?

Well, Stardew Valley is a game about farming. I know sounds fun right? No we’re kidding it has more to offer than your typical farming game. From mining and fishing to making friends and falling in love, Stardew Valley’s Pelican Town is stuffed with rewarding opportunities. The way your story begins is quite unique and it can lead you to think about real life, which is always a bonus. Your story begins in the field, cleaning up a neglected and rundown farm. You are hands on at this point, plotting and planning your garden, whilst thinking about the fruits and vegetables you’d like to grow.

As you develop and invest in advanced equipment the questions you ask yourself are slightly different. Such as how can I break down large rocks and stumps that stick out in my garden? And how can I buy and maintain animals to get a larger return from my farm work?

You develop your farming skills and the way you think throughout the game. And it does reflect on real life in many ways. Everyone start of as a helper, before they gain the experience and knowledge to think for themselves. This is true of many trades and farming is no different. If you love a game that’s easy to play with gentle twists and turns along with heaps of problem solving, Stardew Valley is for you! Here’s the trailer:
